“Get The Edge at Low-Limit TEXAS Hold’em!
By Bill Burton
Price: $14.95 (www.bonus-books.com, 1-800-225-3775)
Strengths: This book provides a “foundation” for playing poker (Texas Hold’em) in a casino or on-line. I found the book to be chock full of tips, charts, recommendations, examples and explanations to benefit not only the beginning player, but informational reminders and shortcuts some of the more seasoned players may occasionally miss. Boiled down, this book introduces hold’em in a way new players can readily grasp, while laying a strong foundation for them to start playing “winning poker,” and at the same time hammering home the message that “playing premium cards, playing solid aggressive and managing your temper, time and chip stack,” will lead to successful table results whether you are new or an experienced player.
With the author’s permission I quote: “The Rule of Four-Two” pages 162-163
“The rule of four-two, as I like to call it, is an easier way to figure the odds for any situation where you know your outs. It is not completely accurate but it will give you a quick “ballpark” figure of your chances for making a hand. Here is how it works.
With two cards to come after the flop you multiply your number of outs by four. With one card to come after the turn, you multiply your number of outs by two. This will give you a quick figure to work with. If you have a four-card flush after the flop you have nine outs. With two cards to come, you multiply the nine by four and your get 36 percent chance of making the flush. The chart shows the true odds at 35 percent. With one card to come, you multiply nine by two and get 18 percent. The chart shows that the true figure is 19.6. It is not completely accurate but it is pretty close, and it is an easy calculation to do in your head.”
Worth It: Totally. Value in content and price, a book that allows new players to gain insight and provides veterans an opportunity to take self-examination of their troubled play. Getting your edge on is a priority notion to have at the table, and now in your library.
